Starting school in Reception

Starting School

The children are given different starting days over the first few days to ensure that their introduction to school life is a reassuring and calm one.  On your child’s first morning, please go with them to their classroom between 8.45 a.m. and 8.55 a.m.  The staff will greet the children individually and settle them into their morning routine.  Please collect your child from  outside their classroom at 12.00 noon on their first day.  The letter in your starter pack gives specific details of these arrangements.

Thereafter school will begin at 8.55 a.m. and children are able to come into school from 8.45 a.m.  Please do not leave your children at school any earlier than 8.45 a.m.  They will NOT be supervised and could therefore be at risk.

After the first few days, encourage your child to leave you at the classroom door and walk in to the classroom on his/her own.  This helps your child to be independent and eases congestion in the classrooms.  A member of staff will be at the gate to welcome children and parents.

If you arrive after 8.55 a.m. please bring your child into school through the main entrance and register with the Receptionist or School Secretary.  You will be asked to sign a 'Late Slip'.

Please do not bring buggies or prams inside the school building in the mornings.

The school hosts a Breakfast Club run by WeareSCL for both infant and junior children.  Please click here to find out more details.
